Kunming-Vientiane High-Speed Train Hoped to Bring Flow of Tourists to Cambodia

VIENTIANE: The Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon, has stated that the Kunming-Vientiane high-speed train is hoped to bring in a new flow of tourists to Cambodia in the future.

Minister Thong Khon shared these remarks during his four-day official state visit to Laos from 12-15 March 2023. His visit is intended to enhance tourism cooperation between the two countries.

While in Laos, the Minister took the high-speed train from Vientiane to Luang Prabang and remarked on how the train also continues on to Kunming in Yunnan province, China, allowing for the flow of tourists between the two countries.

He noted that many tourists from Laos and Thailand travel to visit China, and vice versa, so Cambodia hopes that this will translate into a flow of tourists visiting the Kingdom as well in the future, as many people like to travel to places that are cheap and safe.

Both Cambodia and Laos have jointly encouraged the facilitation of cross-border travel to boost mutual tourism.

The high-speed rail line in Laos connects China to Luang Prabang and Vientiane, so many Chinese tourists can take the train to visit the Laos capital, then potentially continue on to Cambodia by flight.
